First Mighty Boosh Festival goes off with a bang
United Kingdom | |
07 July 2008
The comedy duo, consisting of Noel Fielding and Julian Barrett, were joined onstage by
actors from some of their programmes to perform tracks like 'Space Pirates', 'Old Gregory's Song', 'Bingo'
and 'The Funk Song'.
Har Mar Superstar
joined the troupe on the main stage for a dance-off against series character Bob Fossil, before
Fossil initiated a giant game of bingo by throwing inflatable balls into the crowd and calling out their numbers. When '666'
was launched into the audience The Hitcher came on stage to sing the track 'Eels'.
Despite
a capacity of 30,000 the festival only managed to draw around 9,000 festival-goers to the inaugural bash but many got into
the spirit of things and dressed up as characters from the show, to watch performances from the likes of Gary Numan,
The Kills and Robots In Disguise.
Earlier on in the day Har Mar Superstar had stripped down to his underwear as he danced and sung over tracks
from his iPod. The singer performed songs like 'Power Lunch' and 'H.A.R.M.A.R', which featured Beth Ditto
on vocals.
The Charlatans drew a reasonable
sized crowd, despite many revellers not arriving until late in the afternoon with the Brit Pop six-piece dedicating 'The
Only One I Know' to Noel Fielding.
Elsewhere, the comedy tent was packed to see performances from the likes
of Ross Noble, Garth Marenghi and a Bernard
Manning tribute from Frankie Boyle.
