Razorlight and Fatboy Slim wow Rock Ness
United Kingdom | |
09 June 2008
Johnny Borrell and Co. were lit up by a giant backdrop of light bulbs that spelled out 'Razorlight'
as they took to the main stage after Editors. Making their
only UK festival appearance of the year, the London quartet ploughed through hits 'In The Morning', 'America'
and 'Golden Touch' to the 35,000 strong crowd.
Earlier in the day The Cribs' Ryan Jarman had received an unusual Scottish welcome when he was hit square
in the forehead by a glo-stick as he walked onstage. Undeterred, however, the Wakefield brothers went on to deliver a hectic
set.
They remained on the side of the stage to watch Editors
perform on the main stage, while The View performed in the
Clash Arena showcasing two brand new tracks. The Dundee four-piece balanced things out though, as 'Same Jeans' and
'Superstar Tradesman' provoke massive sing-a-longs.
Fatboy
Slim proved to be the largest draw of the weekend on the Saturday night as he made his second appearance in three
years on the main stage. An extended version of his own 'Right Here Right Now' proved popular before he dropped a
remix of 'Monster' by The Automatic in homage to Loch Ness' Nessie.
Elsewhere, Mylo was feeling rather patriotic as he performed a DJ set to his home crowd in an old Scotland
football shirt, while the Mystery Jets announced that
they'd be skinny dipping in the Loch after their set.
But the most heroic award of the weekend went to Our Lunar Activities guitarist Derek Healy
who discharged himself from hospital after an appendix operation just to make his band's slot.
Underworld,
Simian Mobile Disco and Hercules and Love Affair also appeared over the weekend. Check back
for our full review.
