All Tomorrow's Parties - What's it all about?
United Kingdom | |
04 November 2002
Background
All Tomorrow's Parties was founded in 1999, and is widely credited as being the pioneer
of chalet-based weekender festivals, much to the organisers' irritation. They would claim that it's not about the chalet culture,
it's about being able to spend a weekend with a few thousand like-minded alternative mucial purists, listening to a load of
brilliant underground artists (selected by the headliner, or 'curator'). In '99, this honour fell on Belle & Sebastian.
Mogwai, Shellac, Tortoise and Autechre have since worn the colours. It's a reaction against the mainstream festival culture.
There's no sponsorship or A-listed bands on the bill.
