Rage Against The Machine Re-Unite for Coachella

The eighth Coachella Festival takes place from 27 to 29 April at Indio, California, USA. Tickets go on-sale this Saturday (27 January). Three-day passes will cost about $250 and there will be a limited number of single-day passes available. Please see the official site here for ordering information.

Other acts expected to appear this year include Bjork, Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Roots, Manu Chao, the Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Air, Tiësto and Kings of Leon. An official announcement is expected in the next few days.

Rage Against The Machine last appeared at Coachella in 1999, and made their final festival appearance in the UK at Leeds Festival in 2000, shortly before disbanding due to animosity between frontman Zack De La Rocha and his bandmates. The latter hooked up singer Chris Cornell to form Audioslave. Not much more was heard of De La Rocha, aside from some romantic rumours of gun-running exploits in the jungles of Mexico, and a brief re-union with guitarist Tom Morello at a 2005 rally for the urban farmers of a South Los Angeles community garden.

Sources say the Coachella appearance is a one-off, to see if the band members can tolerate eachother. If it proves that they can, there is certainly a good chance of the band making an appearance at a British festival this summer. Most likely contenders would be Download, the Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals or even Glastonbury (where the band played a memorable set in 1994).
