Cocteau Twins reform for Coachella
United States | |
01 February 2005
Coldplay, New Order, Weezer and Nine
Inch Nails will headline the festival, which takes place at the Empire Polo Field, Indio,
California, between 30 April and 1 May.
A number of British acts, including Kasabian,
Gang Of Four, Bloc Party, Razorlight, Doves, Prodigy,
British Sea Power and Stereophonics help make up the rest of the bill.
But it's the
inclusion of Cocteau Twins that will raise the most eyebrows. The Scottish band split up in 1998, abandoning
an album that was three quarters complete, and vowing never to make a record together again.
But after bosses at Coachella booked a reunited Stooges to the 2003 line up and also helped get the Pixies back together for last year's festival, Coachella 2005 is carrying on in the tradition by bringing Liz Fraser, Simon Raymonde, and Robin Guthrie back together for the festival - as well as reuniting another disbanded group, Bauhaus.
Festival promoter Paul Tollet told NME.com: "With the Cocteau Twins - I just kept persevering.
The same guy who helped me with Pixies, helped me with that one. We just want to have all different types [of artists]. We're
not looking for bands that haven't been around necessarily, just different types of music that add up."
