Hyde Park Calling 2006

United Kingdom United Kingdom | | 05 July 2006

The crowd at Hyde Park Calling is made up of families, red-faced revellers basking in the glorious July sun, dads taking their sons to see the bands that made them the men they are today, sons showing their parents that rock is still alive and kicking.

It is a theme that extends to the stage with veterans The Who - the fathers of mod rock - supported by their musical offspring, Razorlight. Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey plays drums for The Who. Roger Waters' son Harry plays keyboards in his backing band. Out in the crowd, people (including Noel Gallager) stroll around the market stalls holding their childrens’ hands. Backstage, it's no different with Primal Scream's kids bouncing around with Paul Weller's. In every corner, this is a festival embracing the joy as generations are united by the power of music. It's a beautiful, moving, uplifting and tremendously powerful experience. Long may Hyde Park Calling live on.
